Writesonic is now an AI search visibility (GEO) platform first and a writer second. Plans start at $99 a month and track ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews.
Verdict: 3.2 out of 5. Worth it if your team wants AI answer tracking and 15 articles a month on one bill. Skip it if you need Perplexity, Claude or AI Mode: below Enterprise, every plan tracks only three platforms.

Writesonic GEO in 2026: from AI writer to AI search platform
Writesonic began, in its own words, as “An AI content platform”. Its 2026 homepage sells “The AI Search Growth Engine”, with the promise “Track 8 AI platforms, run the work, prove the lift”. The writer is still there, but as one part of a GEO platform: you see how AI assistants mention your brand, then fix the gaps with articles, site audits and outreach.
The price list changed too (monthly billing, 7 October 2026 against an archived copy from 8 October 2025).

The entry price doubled, from $49 to $99, but tracking got cheaper. A year ago the page said “AI Search Visibility (GEO) is available on Professional and higher plans only”, and Professional cost $249. The $99, $249 and $499 price points survived; what they include did not.
Chatsonic, the chat assistant that older reviews cover, is no longer on the 2026 pricing page or in the main menu. Its own page, which still carries a 2025 copyright, offers a free tier and an Individual plan at $16 a month billed annually. We treat that as legacy pricing and leave Chatsonic out of the prices below.
Writesonic pricing 2026: plans and limits
There are three self-serve plans and a custom Enterprise tier. Yearly billing takes 20% off and is paid 12 months upfront.

Seats are tight: 1 user on Starter, 2 on Basic and 3 on Growth, with 1, 1 and 2 projects. Basic can add up to 3 users and Growth up to 2, at $50 a month each. Growth can add 20 articles a month for $100 a month. In October 2025 the pricing FAQ said unused articles don’t roll over; the 2026 page doesn’t say, so ask during the trial.
SSO/SAML and a dedicated AI search strategist are Enterprise-only; the Enterprise card also lists SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA and GDPR.
The pricing page opens on yearly prices. The monthly figures come from the plan table on the vendor’s affiliate page, and they match the yearly savings shown on the pricing page: $240, $600 and $1,200 a year.
Agencies have their own price list. Agency Starter shows $200 a month with the page’s default Annual setting, for 20 pitch projects of 1 to 7 days and 2,000 answers a month on every model except Claude. Keeping a client on as a standard project costs from $150 a month per project.

Fine print in the Terms of Service (last updated 12 May 2026).
- Section 12.3: plans renew automatically for the same term. Online plans can be cancelled from the account page at any time, effective at the end of the billing cycle.
- Section 12.4: prices for the next term can change with 30 days’ notice.
- Section 12.7: over plan limits, the company “may rate-limit, throttle, or charge overage fees” under your order form.
What each plan tracks: 3 platforms, not 8
The homepage says 8 AI platforms, but the pricing FAQ is more precise: “Basic and Growth track ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews. Enterprise tracks all 8 platforms including Perplexity, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, and Google AI Mode.” Starter covers the same three. None of the three self-serve plans tracks Perplexity, Claude, Copilot, Grok or AI Mode. If your buyers use Perplexity or Google’s AI Mode, that alone is a reason to look at the alternatives below.
Check the daily limits too. Basic gets 300 answers for 100 prompts, and Growth 600 for 200: three answers per prompt, which by our reading means one per platform. By the same reading, Starter’s 50 answers a day cannot cover all 50 prompts on three platforms, and the pricing page doesn’t say how it splits them. Test this in the trial.
How answers are collected matters as much as how many. Writesonic says most tools “query AI through APIs”, while it crawls “the web interface like a buyer would”. SE Visible and Profound make similar claims. Rankscale lists some engines as API-based, and Semrush builds its Brand Performance report from prompts it generates itself, refreshed weekly.
Reports show visibility, citations, sentiment and share of voice, filtered by competitor, market, language and intent. Some features depend on the plan.
- Sentiment analysis starts on Growth.
- The Action Center, a ranked list of content, citation and technical fixes, is a trial on Growth (5 off-page and 5 on-page actions a month) and complete only on Enterprise.
- Every self-serve plan covers 1 market, meaning one language and country pair; more markets need Enterprise.
- Ads monitoring for ChatGPT and Google AI answers is listed on every plan.
Prompt research and AI search volumes draw on what the company calls “2 billion+ real AI conversations across 8 platforms and 50+ markets”, updated weekly.
Below Enterprise these tools are limited: Starter has no AI Search Volume, Basic and Growth get 5 one-time runs, and Prompt Explorer and Brand Explorer are Enterprise-only. AI agents are capped at 10, 50 and 100 trial runs on Starter, Basic and Growth.
The AI Article Writer: what 15 articles a month buy
Writing is bundled into every plan: 15 AI articles a month on Starter, 25 on Basic and 50 on Growth. Writesonic describes “100+ steps” and “11 expert frameworks” per article: research, an outline, drafting, an expert review and a final stage called “Humanizer & Gate”. It promises “Long-form depth (3,000 to 8,000 words)” with citations, FAQs and schema, plus one-click export to WordPress, Sanity, Contentful, Webflow or Ghost.
We have no account with the tool, so we did not generate articles and do not score their quality. The figures above are the vendor’s description, not our measurement. If articles are your main reason to buy, run your own topics through the trial first.
The humanizer is a step in that pipeline, not a separate product: the company says it strips “AI tells” such as em dashes and filler. The current free tools page doesn’t list a humanizer. We don’t count hiding AI use as a feature, and each article still needs an editor who knows the subject.
Read the terms before you publish at scale. Section 6.2 gives you ownership of outputs, but section 6.3 warns they “may be inaccurate” and “are not unique to Customer”, so similar text can be produced for someone else.
Writesonic free trial, free tools and refunds
There is no free plan on the 2026 pricing page, but two things cost nothing.
- A 7-day free trial without a credit card. The pricing FAQ promises “full access” but lists no trial limits.
- Two free tools with daily limits and no login: an llms.txt generator and an AI crawl checker.
Once you pay, the refund window is short. Section 12.6 of the terms allows “a full refund of the initial subscription fee within seven (7) days of first purchase” on request by email. After that, fees are non-refundable unless the law says otherwise, and Enterprise and agency plans bought under an order form are non-refundable.
Older reviews, including the previous version of this one, mention 10 free credits or a free plan with 10,000 words a month. Neither is on the current pricing page. To test it on your own prompts, start the 7-day trial; no card is needed.

Trustpilot, G2 and the billing complaints
On 7 October 2026 Writesonic had a TrustScore of 4.6 from 5,764 Trustpilot reviews: 87% five-star and 2% one-star. On the same day Semrush scored 1.7 and SE Ranking 4.2.
The newest reviews read differently. Of the six most recent, four gave one star. Three of those four were about money.
- September 2026: a reviewer said the company expected them to pay twice for the same service.
- September 2026: a reviewer who emailed a cancellation request before an annual renewal wrote that it went unanswered.
- February 2026: a reviewer warned of hidden charges and recurring fees.
The positive ones praise support and the SEO side: a five-star review in February 2026 praised the customer service, and a four-star one in June 2026 concluded the tool works as an AI SEO platform. Six reviews are a small sample.
Section 12.3 of the terms accepts written notice at least 30 days before the term ends, and online plans can also be cancelled on the in-product account page at any time. Use the account page well before an annual renewal and keep a screenshot.
On G2, the listing shown in search results on 7 October 2026 gave 4.7 stars from over 2,100 reviews. G2 blocked our direct check, so treat that figure as approximate.
The company itself is established. Writesonic, Inc., founded by Samanyou Garg, lists a San Francisco address and a remote team, went through Y Combinator (S21) and says it has been profitable since raising $2.6M in 2021.
How it compares: Jasper, ChatGPT and Profound
Writesonic vs Jasper
Jasper is a writing platform first. Jasper Pro costs $69 a month, or $59 billed yearly, for 1 seat with brand voices and marketing agents. GEO agents, translations, deep research and the API are in the Business plan, which has custom pricing and runs its GEO Hub on credits.
Writesonic puts tracking on its entry plan, with a public price. Pick Jasper if your team writes brand copy for many channels and AI tracking can wait. Pick Writesonic if the first question is whether AI answers mention you. Both have a 7-day trial.
Is Writesonic better than ChatGPT?
They do different jobs. ChatGPT is one of the assistants the tracker watches. It can write a draft, but it won’t report how often it recommends your brand across 50 prompts a day. The vendor’s article writer adds research, citations and internal links to each draft. If you only need drafts, a chat assistant you already pay for may be enough; we have not compared output quality.
Profound vs Writesonic
Profound sells mainly to large brands. A brand gets a free 7-day trial, with 50 prompts a day on ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews, a fixed prompt set and no exports. After that comes Enterprise at a custom price, covering up to 9 engines. Of the two, only Writesonic publishes self-serve prices for brands.
Writesonic alternatives for AI visibility tracking
If Starter doesn’t fit, these tools do the same job. Prices are for each tool’s entry plan with AI visibility tracking, checked on each vendor’s pages on 7 October 2026. For Rankscale we show Pro, because the page doesn’t show what its yearly-only Essentials plan includes.

- SE Visible, from SE Ranking: the most tracking for $99 here, with Perplexity and AI Mode included and a 10-day free trial. Query fan-out and sentiment tracking are still marked “coming soon”.
- Otterly.AI: the cheapest monthly entry; Gemini, AI Mode and Claude are paid add-ons. Its FAQ gives a 7-day trial, while a button on the same site says 14 days.
- Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: no free trial, and each user needs a separate subscription. It makes most sense if you already pay for Semrush.
- Rankscale: you spend credits per engine, and unused credits roll over. Pro has a 7-day trial; prepaid fees are non-refundable under its terms.
- Scrunch: the most expensive entry here. Core costs $3,000 a year, and the 7-day trial needs a card and converts to a paid plan unless you cancel.
- Frase and Scalenut: a writer plus a tracker for less money. Frase Starter includes 10 articles a month; Scalenut Starter includes 5 and refreshes tracking weekly. See our Frase review and Scalenut review.

- Anyone who needs Perplexity, Claude or AI Mode tracked without an Enterprise contract.
- Buyers who only want tracking: SE Visible gives more prompts and platforms for the same money, and Otterly.AI starts at $29.

On 7 October 2026 we read Writesonic’s pricing, agency, affiliate, product and free tools pages, its Terms of Service and an archived pricing page from 8 October 2025. Yearly prices, the agency page and the Chatsonic page were also checked in a browser. Ratings are from Trustpilot that day; G2 only from a search result. An older 2025 page still has a “Humanize AI Text” footer link, but it now opens the AI Article Writer page; the current free tools page lists no humanizer.

Not for general-purpose models, according to the terms. Section 6.4 says customer data is not used to train or fine-tune them unless you opt into a separate program, though de-identified, aggregated data may still be used to improve the service. Section 6.5 applies the same rule to trials, and section 6.2 makes you the owner of outputs.
